Morele, a prominent Polish e-commerce company, is investing over 20 million PLN in robotic logistics to enhance customer service and streamline operations for its sellers. This significant modernization of their 24,000 m² logistics center in Sosnowiec is slated for completion in early Q4 this year.
The Core of the Investment
The most crucial element of this investment is the acquisition of an Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS). This system enables the storage of products in plastic containers, which robots then deliver to employees for order fulfillment. This technology not only saves warehouse space but also reduces order processing time that would otherwise be spent by employees manually navigating aisles.
Integrating New and Existing Solutions
The investment also involves connecting the ASRS system via conveyors to existing solutions in Morele’s logistics center. Initially, the automated picking system will integrate with an automated order packaging machine, followed by a label applicator for shipping documents, and finally, a sorter that directs orders to specific carriers.
Benefits and Future Outlook
“We’ve been working on the system we’re implementing for a long time. In its planning, we wanted to ensure every detail was covered, which is why employees, coordinators, and area managers responsible for order fulfillment played a key role,” says Mateusz Kapusta, Logistics Director at Morele. “It was worth dedicating a bit more time to the planning phase, because thanks to this, our logistics center has the chance to join the European leaders in terms of technology. Once all works are complete, our customers will feel the greatest benefits. Above all, order fulfillment times will be shortened, and customers will be able to place orders later in the day and receive them the next day.”
The modernization is taking place in stages and will not affect current order delivery times. Currently, work is underway to prepare the space for the new system and install electrical infrastructure. The next phases will include the assembly of the ASRS system, connection of conveyors, and testing with empty containers before products are introduced.
Morele indicates that this over 20 million PLN investment, set to be finalized in early Q4 this year, is not the last of the innovations planned for their logistics center, though further details remain undisclosed for now.
